Product Use Instructions 

Surface Preparation

Concrete: Surfaces should be allowed to cure for a minimum of 20 days before coating. Excessive weak surface laitance must be removed by either acid etching or abrasive sweeping before coating. Aged, uncoated concrete surfaces are best prepared by abrasive sweeping. Contamination by oil or grease should be removed with an industrial degreaser before abrasive blasting or acid etching.

Wet Surfaces: Remove marine biological settlement and corrosion by high pressure water jetting with or without abrasive. Conventional air/ abrasive blasting works well at shallow depths however efficiency falls off sharply below 10 feet

Mixing Procedures.

Bio-Fill E457 is a two-component, 3:2 mix by volume, solvent free product. For small kits, manual mixing by hand using a wooden or plastic stir stick can be easy accomplished. For larger kits, a Jiffy Type mixer with a high torque motor is recommended for proper blending. Pour the curing agent into the base and mix for about 2 minutes, taking care to reach all corners and walls to eliminate unmixed material. Unmixed material will be easily recognized by streaks of black or white compared to the mixed grey color. Material does not require an induction time and can be immediately used after mixing.

Application

Horizontal Areas: Apply the mixed components into the prepared area by trowel, taking care to ensure that the Bio-Fill E457 will intimately contacts to the surface. Ensure good adhesion by firmly pressing the initial layer into the substrate. It will be helpful to paddle the mixture around the void space if there is a possibility that trapped air or water is present.

Vertical Areas: Bio-Fill E457 may be applied up to 1″ thickness on properly prepared vertical surfaces. Apply the mixed material using a straight edged spreader or similar tool and press into the void to be coated in order to “wet’ the interior surface. Excess product is easily removed and returned back to the pot as waste or spread out in a thin layer using the straight edge spreader. To improve adhesion, consider using a concrete primer such as Bio-Seal E197 which will provide a tacky surface and chemical bond into the concrete.

**Temperature plays a significant role in the cure rate and build thickness achievable. Higher temperatures will decrease the working time and cure times but will also cause the material to sag at high build thickness. If applying in warm conditions, reduce overall build thickness per layer. Allow to cure until tacky before applying the next layer.
