Product Use Instructions 

Surface Preparation

Concrete: Surfaces should be allowed to cure for a minimum of 20 days before coating. Excessive weak surface laitance must be removed by either acid etching or abrasive sweeping before coating. Aged, uncoated concrete surfaces are best prepared by abrasive sweeping. Contamination by oil or grease should be removed with an industrial degreaser before abrasive blasting or acid etching.

Aged Concrete: Best prepared by light abrasive blasting

Steel: Hand sanding, needle gun or bristle blaster, abrasive blasting

Existing Coatings: May be applied over clean coatings in good condition. Light hand sanding recommended to improve surface profile. Do not overcoat with conventional coatings to prevent cracking on the top coat.

Primer, Base Coat: Application of Bio-Seal 197 penetrating sealer on porous concrete before Bio-Chime 390 application will prevent or minimize out-gassing from the concrete. Allow to cure until “gummy” before applying the bio-chime 390, typically 4-6 hours at 77F

Mixing Procedures.

This material is a two-component product, premeasured to produce the desired kit size once part A and B are mixed. Each side is tinted different so for immediate visual feedback on proper mixing. For small kits, a Jiffy type mixer with a high torque motor is recommended for proper blending. Pour the curing agent into the base and mix for about 1 minute , taking care to reach all corners and walls to eliminate unmixed material. Unmixed material will never harden. No induction time is required and material may be used immediately.

For larger areas, application by heated plural spray should be use the following equipment setup:

Mix Ratio: 1/1 by volume

Fluid Pressure: 3,000 psi

Fluid Temp: 130F +

Fluid Hose: 3/8″ minimum for 100′ length

Tip Size: .025-.035″

Filters: Remove filters. Fibers in coating will clog if not.

Note: Pot life and reaction time is heavily depending on temperature. As a general guide, every 18F above 77F will decrease the pot life and cure time by half: e.g. 30 minutes -> 15 minutes

Application

Do not exceed applications thicker than 2″ otherwise internal overheating can occur from exothermic reaction. Typical chime thickness reduces from 1/2″ to 20 mils at outer edge.
