E1850 Epoxy Floor Coating | 100% Solids | High Gloss | Abrasion Resistant | Long 30-40 Min Work Time | High Build To 60 Mils DFT One Coat

The E1850 Glaze Coat is a specially formulated two component, 100% Solids Epoxy Coating designed as a great basecoat for a flake or quartz broadcast system and for use where a hard, durable, tile-like high gloss floor finish is desired. Based on a unique blend of “resin rich” polymers, E1850 provides an extremely wear resistant surface, which also is cosmetically attractive in appearance.

E1850 is a low viscosity, self-leveling resin that can be applied at a dry film thickness of 10-60 mils in one (1) coat. Most applications are 10-20 mils DFT. The E1850, being a 100% solids epoxy, is ideal for use in confined areas where solvent odor is objectionable.  With a long 30-40 minute working time the E1850 Epoxy makes for a less stressful and rushed application.

E1850 Epoxy comes in 5 colors and is available in easy to use 1 gallon, 3 gallon and 4 gallon kits.

Wondering how much you epoxy basecoat needed for the typical 2 car garage 400 to 500 sq’?  Want an easy to use solution to maximize your working time?  Get one of our 3 gallon kits which is just right for a 2 car garage.  It is easy to use and easy to apply.  By shipping your 3 gallon kit in (3) separate 1 gallon kits, it allows you 3x more working time than the typical 3 gallon kit.  Divide your project into 3 equal sections then mix and apply a 1 gallon kit for each of the 3 sections.  Simple, easy, offering 1.5 to 2.0 hours total time to apply your 3 gallon kit (30-40 min for each 1 gallon kit x 3 = 1.5 to 2.0 hours) , to beautify and protect your 2 car garage.  Our E1850 Epoxy is a great choice to simplify any DIY epoxy floor project.

E1850 meets all EPA and other air pollution regulations, and meets USDA requirements.  E1850 is designed for use as a finish coat in  Food Processing Plants, Breweries, Dairies, Bottling Plants, Pulp & Paper Mills, Chemical Processing Plants, Refineries, Electric Generating Plants, Warehouses, Hallways, Shop Floors, Waste Water Treatment Plants and many other industries.

PRIMER: Optional:  To reduce chance of concrete outgassing or enhance color saturation, recommend E5015 Water Based Epoxy comes in 20 colors to match topcoat.  For quick recoat, one day day project OR application in damp conditions recommend E155CL Epoxy Clear Primer with recoat in 30 min – 1-1/2 hour for 100% solids topcoats and application over damp or moist concrete.

For applying directly to VCT, ceramic tile, vinyl, linoleum or asbestos mastics, cutback and carpet glues with minimal preparation consider our Perfect Primer Sealer.

TOPCOAT: Optional:  For additional abrasion and chemical protection, recommend E1900 Clear or E1901 Clear Fast Cure

MIXING AND APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

SURFACE PREPARATION

In all cases of surface preparation, the pH should be checked. A pH reading of 7.0 to 8.5 is acceptable. Also, a Water Dissipation Test should be made on random areas of the floor to determine if the proper degree of porosity has been achieved. Before the installation of any Gulf Coast Paint Products, the substrate should be examined for moisture. Test for moisture vapor transmission using ASTM F-1869 Standard Test Method for Measuring Moisture Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride. The maximum allowable rate is 3lbs per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours. Test for relative humidity in concrete floor slabs using Probes according to ASTM F-2170. This test measures the presence relative humidity of the slab below the surface. The maximum relative humidity should be below 80%.

New concrete must be cured at least a minimum of 28 days before applying a coating. On-grade slabs must have moisture vapor barrier in place. All laitance, sealers, efflorescence, chemical contaminants, grease, oil and other foreign material must be removed. The prepared surface must be clean, dry and structurally sound. Gulf Coast Paint recommends mechanical preparation by means of shot blasting or diamond grinding to achieve a CSP-2 or CSP-3 profile, in accordance, with the international concrete repair institute (ICRI). The profile should reflect something similar to a 60-100 grit sandpaper. If the substrate is not properly prepared and the appropriate profile is not achieved, failure of the product to adhere to the substrate may occur.

Old concrete surfaces must be structurally sound. Any unsound areas must be repaired prior to proceeding with the resinous installation. For proper patching and preparing, use E615 and/or E1000 with graded aggregate. Remove existing paint and loose concrete by rough sanding, sandblasting, high pressure water cleaning, shot blasting or grinding. In some cases where plant conditions allow, a stripper may be used to remove excessive build-up of paints or sealers.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

E1850 is a 3:1 mix ratio by volume, and is prepared by mixing 3 parts by volume of pigmented BASE A with 1 part by volume of HARDENER Part B using a low speed drill with a Jiffy Mixer. Blend the 2 components slowly together for a minimum of 3 minutes. Do not vary from the 3:` mixing ratio. No thinning is required, and no induction time is required. E1850 may be used immediately after 3 minutes of mixing.

Do not drain or scrape out the final product remaining in mixing pails and pour onto the floor. There can be un-mixed resin on sides and bottom of pails, which can cause uncured soft spots on floor.  Change out roller covers and mixing pails periodically on larger projects to avoid build up of curing material.  After applying E1850 by squeegee or roller if any air bubbles appear you can immediately back-roll material with a plastic or metal porcupine roller which may form from outgassing or by mixing during application.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

For best results, apply E1850 with a notched squeegee at 10-60 mils DFT or a 1/4″ or 1/2″ roller at 10-20 mils DFT. After applying E1850 by squeegee or roller immediately back-roll material with a metal porcupine roller to break up any air bubbles which may form by mixing or during application. If any concrete out-gassing has previously occurred, roller 1-2 coats of E155 Concrete Primer directly to the concrete surface before applying the E1850 to help reduce out-gassing. The E155 should be butterfly rolled into the concrete to provide uniform coverage. E155 Primer should be top coated while it is still “tacky” refer to the E155 Technical Data Sheet for specific information on recoating.

The E1850 Coating has excelling “wetting out ” properties, and has the capability of being applied directly to properly cleaned and porous concrete surface as a one coat system. However, a test sample of E1850 should be applied to assure that a uniform gloss finish is maintained and proper penetration and adhesion has been achieved. We still recommend the use of a concrete primer for over-all best results.

NOTE:  For safety and product curing, proper ventilation is necessary throughout application and cure.  When using pigmented Finish Coats, always be sure the batch numbers are all the same to provide a uniform color.

Do not apply if the surface temperature is within 5° of the Dew Point.  PC-1850 Base and Hardener should be stored at 75°- 85°F to help maintain a lower, rollable viscosity.  Do not apply when material is cold.  Allow a minimum of 72 hours with good ventilation before putting floor back into service.  If a non-skid finish is required, prepare a test patch for owner approval prior to application.

SHELF LIFE

The shelf life of CF-621 is in excess of 12 months when stored at 50°- 90°F or below.

CAUTIONS

E1850 Base is combustible.  Keep away from all sources of ignition during storage, mixing, application and cure.  E1850 Hardener is corrosive.  The Hardener and Base can cause eye and skin burns as well as allergic reactions.  When spraying, the use of goggles, fresh air masks or NIOSH approved respirators, protective skin cream and protective clothing is recommended as a standard practice. This product is sold without warranty as to performance expressed or implied.  Users are urged to make their own tests to determine the suitability for their particular conditions.

1. What is a 100% solids epoxy coating?

A 100% solids epoxy coating contains no solvents or water, meaning everything applied remains on the floor after curing. This results in a thicker, more durable, high-build epoxy floor coating compared to water-based or solvent-based epoxy products.

2. Is this epoxy good for garage floors?

Yes. This 100% solids epoxy coating is ideal for garage floors because it provides excellent adhesion to properly prepared concrete, high gloss finish, chemical resistance, and abrasion resistance. It is commonly used in residential garages, workshops, and commercial spaces.

3. What makes this epoxy different from big-box store epoxy kits?

Unlike DIY epoxy kits found at hardware stores, this professional-grade 100% solids epoxy:

  • Builds a thicker coating per coat

  • Has superior durability and abrasion resistance

  • Provides longer working time

  • Produces a true high-gloss finish

  • Is designed for flake floor systems

4. Can this epoxy be used in a flake floor system?

Yes. The E1850 epoxy is specifically designed as a base coat for decorative vinyl flake floor systems. Its long working time allows for proper broadcast of epoxy flakes, ensuring full coverage and professional results.

5. How long is the working time (pot life)?

This epoxy has an extended working time compared to fast-cure systems, allowing contractors and DIY installers more time to roll out material and broadcast flakes before it begins to set.

6. How durable is this epoxy coating?

This abrasion-resistant epoxy coating is designed for high-traffic areas. It resists impact, vehicle traffic, chemical spills, and wear, making it suitable for garages, warehouses, and industrial floors.

7. Does this epoxy require a primer?

For best results, proper surface preparation is essential. On porous concrete, this product can act as a base coat, but some projects may benefit from a dedicated epoxy primer depending on slab condition.

To reduce chance of concrete outgassing or enhance color saturation, recommend E5015 Water Based Epoxy comes in 20 colors to match topcoat.  For quick recoat, one day day project OR application in damp conditions recommend E155CL Epoxy Clear Primer with recoat in 30 min – 1-1/2 hour for 100% solids topcoats and application over damp or moist concrete.

8. How do I prepare my concrete before applying epoxy?

Concrete must be mechanically ground or shot blasted to open the surface profile. Proper surface preparation ensures maximum adhesion and long-term performance of the epoxy floor coating.

9. Is this epoxy UV stable?

Standard 100% solids epoxy coatings are not UV stable and may amber over time in direct sunlight. For areas exposed to UV light, we recommend topcoating with a UV-stable polyaspartic or polyurethane clear coat. We would recommend E1900 Clear or E1901 Clear Fast Cure

10. What is the coverage rate?

Coverage depends on surface condition and application thickness, but most 100% solids epoxy coatings cover approximately 100–160 square feet per gallon at standard build rates.

11. Can homeowners install this epoxy themselves?

Yes, experienced DIY homeowners can apply this coating with proper surface preparation and tools. However, professional installation is recommended for best results in large or commercial spaces.

12. How long does the epoxy floor system last?

With proper installation and maintenance, a professionally installed epoxy flake floor system can last 10–20 years or more in residential applications.

13. Can slip-resistant texture be added to E1850 epoxy floors?

All floor coating systems slippery when wet. For a safer surface we offer 3 anti-slip additives depending on need for safety (positive) and willingness to accept negatives (change in looks, dulled gloss, harder to clean). Always a trade-off. Least change in looks and least aggressive additive is SSR-20 polybeads, then silica sand and most aggressive aluminum oxide. Slip Resistance Additives
