MIXING AND APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

SURFACE PREPARATION:

When coating new block and masonry surfaces, remove all dirt, dust, grease, oil, form release agents, curing compounds, salts, hardeners, chemical contaminants, soil, laitance, efflorescence, old paint, and any other foreign matter. The prepared surface must be clean, dry and structurally sound. Surface should be cleaned by sand blasting or power tool cleaning. Repair damaged masonry cracks, bug holes, spalled areas, joints and seams with CF-615 Epoxy Crack Filler. Allow new masonry to age for 30 days before painting.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS:

Stir each component to a uniform consistency, by power agitation. Make sure any pigment settled to the bottom is incorporated. Do not vary proportions. Poly-Chemcure E-145 Block Filler is prepared by mixing 1 part Base (Part A) to 1 part Hardener (Part B) with a explosion proof variable speed drill with a Jiffy Mixer. Be sure material is thoroughly mixed together. Allow an induction or “sweat in” time for 30 minutes to one hour before using. Then re-mix once more and apply. Thin up to 10% per gallon with SA-65, if necessary. Please note that use of an improper mixer can result in product failure.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

E-145 can be applied by brush, roller or spray. Apply 1-2 coats, depending on porosity.

Airless Spray Graco Conventional Spray DeVilbiss
Gun Silver Plus Gun MBC or JGA
Pump 33:1 Extreme Fluid Tip D
Tip Range .025 to .033 Air Cap 64 or 704
Hose 1/2 inch ID Atomizing pressure 60-100 psi
Pressure 2500 to 3300 psi Hose 1/2 inch ID

Roller – Use a 3/8” – ½” nap, phenolic core, shed resistant roller cover.  Roll in the same direction always keeping a wet edge.  Do not over roll product.

Brush – Use pure bristle brush.

The preferred method of application is to apply a full base coat using an airless spray unit, followed immediately by “back-rolling” the materials to produce a uniform, smooth finish. Use a 3/8” to 1/2” nap, phenolic core roller cover for “back-rolling”. For best results in spraying, use 50% overlapping crosshatch pattern to minimize the occurrence of pinholes. Rough and porous block may need two (2) coats of E-145 Block Filler before applying the rest of the coating system. The second method of application is rolling. Use a 3/4″ – 1-1/4″ phenolic core roller cover.

Make sure the E-145 Epoxy Block Filler is stored at 70ºF – 80ºF before using. Do not apply to surfaces below 50ºF or above 100ºF. Do not apply over dew or frost. The surface should be dry and at least 5ºF above the dew point.

We strongly recommend to test the coating before recoating or topcoating. This is done by pressing your thumb on the coating in multiple places to ensure a fingerprint impression is not visible. If there is no impression visible, then coating the wall can be done. Note, colder or hotter than 75 degrees can affect the curing time schedule

CAUTIONS

E-145 is flammable. Keep away from all sources of ignition during mixing, application and cure. The Hardener (Part B) can cause eye and skin burns as well as allergic reactions. The use of goggles, fresh air masks or NIOSH approved respirators, protective skin cream and protective clothing is a recommended standard practice when spraying coatings. For safety and proper product curing, good ventilation is necessary when painting indoors or in confined areas. This product is sold without warranty as to performance expressed or implied.
