E25 Water Based Epoxy Primer | Primer for E28 Cool Life | 6 Color/Tint Options | Concrete

COVERAGE RATE

Coverage will vary depending on the surface applied to.

As a Primer: Up to 500 Square Feet Per Gallon When Thinned with Water

As a Coating: 250-350 Square Feet Per Gallon

APPLICATION TEMPERATURE: No recommended for application when the temperature is below 55°F. Rain may damage uncured products. If inclement weather threatens, cover the deck to protect new application. Do not allow any non-applied product to freeze.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE APPLICATION STEPS

Recommended Surfaces:

For interior use only unless protected by another product with a UV inhibitor such as our

aliphatic urethane. Uses include industrial floors in factories, restaurant kitchens, schools, hospitals, food processing, garage floors, dairies and warehouses. When thinned, this product works well as a primer under most other systems.

Inspection:

Surface must be structurally sound, dry and free of oil, grease, curing agents, dirt, dust or other foreign material that may prevent proper adhesion. Surface must be porous and profiled. The concrete should be at least 2500 psi and feel like 30-grit sandpaper. The concrete should be porous and be able to absorb water. A minimum of 28 days cured is required on all concrete. Relative humidity in the concrete floor slab should be below 80% (per ASTM F-2170). Before starting flooring work, test existing concrete slab to make sure there is no efflorescence or high levels of alkalinity. Calcium chloride tests should be conducted to determine if the concrete is sufficiently dry for an epoxy flooring installation in accordance with the latest edition of ASTM F 1869, Standard

Test Method for Measuring Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor Using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride.

Failing to adhere to these strict guidelines can result in product delamination, discoloration, blistering, or all together

failure of the coating system. Testing is the responsibility of the applicator. Life Paint bears no responsibility for failures

due to any of the above conditions.

Surface Preparation:

Prepare surface by sanding, grinding, water and/or sandblasting or bead blasting to achieve a clean, porous and uniform surface that will allow product to soak in and bond permanently. Over Concrete Surfaces: Shotblasting is the preferred preferred method for preparing the concrete. In some cases you may prepare by acid etching, floor scrubbing with a nylon grit brush and waterblasting to achieve a clean and uniform surface that feels like 30 grit sandpaper. If acid etching is done, be sure to properly etch and then adequately neutralize by scrubbing and rinsing several times followed by power washing. Muriatic Acid (blended 1:4 with water) may be used to etch concrete and will require baking soda or soda ash to neutralize. (Please use caution when working with acid. Read and follow all warnings and instructions on label). Clean surface entirely with TSP and rinse completely with water several times.

Remove mildew or algae using 50/50 blend of household bleach and water. (Do not allow bleach to come into contact

with acid). Read bleach instructions and warnings carefully before using. Rinse thoroughly. The surface must be porous

enough to allow the product to soak in. Surface should feel like 30 grit sand paper

CHEMICAL ETCHING METHOD:  For an acid etch preparation we suggest our E760CE Muriatic Replacement as a safer alternative.  Power wash surface after minimum 10 minutes or more but before dry to neutralize the E760CE,  then let water thoroughly dry and apply coating.  If no power wash available, can wet mop or hose off but will need to run a stiff broom over surface while wet with E760CE to agitate before neutralizing.

MILDEW: DO NOT PAINT OVER MILDEW. Mildew is a fungus, brown, black, grey or even white in color, and will rapidly grow through any coating applied over it. A solution of 50% household bleach and 50% water will kill the mildew. See precautions on bleach label for handling before using.

CLEAN-UP: Uncured material can be removed with soap and water. Cured material can only be removed mechanically.

Primer Requirements:

The First Coat, Or Primer Coat, Should be thinned with water to insure maximum penetration into the surface. Mix two parts A with one part B and combine for 2 minutes, then add water equal to the amount of Part A and mix for 3 more minutes. Combine using an agitator, jiffy mixer or stir stick. The primer is ready to be applied by brush or roller. Coverage should be approximately 500 sq. ft. per gallon.

Mixing:

Top Coat: In a clean and dry bucket thoroughly mix two parts A and one part B together. Combine using an agitator, jiffy mixer. Mix for at least 2 minutes or until completely combined. Allow the mixture to rest for 10-15 minutes before application to ensure full gloss development and physical properties. Only prepare the amount you can use in 4 hours or less.

Application:

Use a 1/4 inch nap mohair or shed-free roller for the main area. Begin by Cutting in the edges and trim with a brush. The center may be done like you would normally paint a surface, being sure to overlap and back roll each area carefully. For best results apply at least 2 thin coats at 250 sq. ft. per gallon. (Allow first coat to dry before applying second coat).

ANTI-SKID ADDITIVE: 8 oz to 16 oz of anti-skid additive may be added per gallon. (See anti-skid specifications for more details). Application: Use a 1/4 inch nap mohair or shed-free roller for the main area. Begin by cutting in the edges and trim with a brush. The center may be done like you would normally paint a surface, being sure to overlap and back roll each area carefully. For best results apply at least 2 thin coats at 250 sq. ft. per gallon. (Allow first coat to dry before applying second coat).

Drying Time:

1. At normal conditions (77° Farenheit & 50% Humidity) to touch in less than 2 hours.

2. You may re-coat in approximately 6 hours.

3. Should not be applied to surfaces having temperatures below 55°F.

4. Light foot traffic in 6 hours, normal foot traffic in 24 hours, vehicle traffic in 96 hours.

What is E25 Water-Based Epoxy Primer?

E25 is a two-part, water-based epoxy primer designed to improve adhesion, durability, and performance of coatings like the E28 Cool Life Deck Coating.

It combines:

• The strength and chemical resistance of epoxy
• The ease of use and low odor of a water-based system

Why should I use E25 under E28 Cool Life Deck Coating?

E25 is specifically designed to be the recommended primer for E28 systems.

It helps:

• Improve adhesion to concrete and porous surfaces
• Extend the life of the E28 Cool Life Deck Coating topcoat
• Create a more uniform, sealed surface
• Reduce coating failures like peeling or delamination

👉 Bottom line: If you want maximum performance from E28 Cool Life Coating , E25 is the ideal base layer.

Do I really need a primer before applying E28 Cool Life Deck Coating?

In many cases, yes—especially for:

• Bare concrete
• Porous or chalky surfaces
• High-traffic pool decks

While E28 Cool Life Deck Coating can go direct in some cases, using E25:

• Increases durability
• Improves coverage
• Reduces long-term maintenance

Is E25 good for pool decks?

Yes—E25 is commonly used under coatings on:

• Pool decks
• Patios
• Walkways
• Balcony decks

For pool environments, it helps:

• Seal porous concrete
• Improve resistance to moisture and chemicals
• Provide a stronger base for slip-resistant coatings like E28

What surfaces can E25 be applied to?

E25 is designed for a wide range of substrates:

• Concrete (most common)
• Garage and showroom floors
• Patios and walkways
• Interior and exterior floors

It works especially well on properly prepared concrete surfaces.

What makes E25 different from standard concrete primers?

Unlike basic acrylic primers, E25 is an epoxy-based system, which means:

• Stronger bonding to concrete
• Better chemical resistance
• Improved durability under foot traffic
• Longer system lifespan

It essentially upgrades your coating system from “paint” to a performance coating system.

Is E25 water-based or solvent-based?

E25 is water-based, which means:

• Low VOC (around 50 g/L)
• Low odor (ideal for occupied areas)
• Easy soap-and-water cleanup
• Safer application compared to solvent epoxies

How long does E25 take to dry before recoating?

• Recoat time: ~6 hours
• Working time: Extended pot life for easier application

This allows for same-day priming and coating in many projects.

What is the coverage rate for E25?

Coverage depends on how it’s used:

• As a primer: up to ~500 sq ft per gallon (thinned)
• As a coating: ~250–350 sq ft per gallon

Porous concrete will absorb more material.

Can E25 be tinted?

Yes—E25 is available in multiple tint/base options (6 colors).

Benefits of tinting:

• Better hide and uniform appearance
• Helps match or complement the E28 topcoat
• Improves coverage efficiency

Is E25 durable enough on its own?

E25 can be used as a light-duty coating, but it’s primarily designed as a primer layer.

For best performance:

• Use E25 as the base
• Apply E28 as the topcoat

This creates a complete, high-performance deck system.

Does E25 help with moisture in concrete?

Yes—E25 helps:

• Seal porous concrete
• Improve adhesion in slightly damp conditions
• Reduce issues caused by moisture vapor

However, it is not a full moisture mitigation system.

Is E25 good for hot climates like Georgia or Florida?

Yes. In hot climates:

• Concrete expands and becomes more porous
• Coatings are more prone to failure

E25 helps stabilize the surface and allows E28 to:

• Reflect heat
• Perform longer under UV exposure

Can E25 be used indoors?

Yes—because it is water-based and low odor, E25 is suitable for:

• Garages
• Kitchens
• Showrooms
• Interior concrete floors

What temperature should E25 be applied at?

• Recommended: Above 55°F
• Avoid freezing conditions
• Protect from rain until cured

How do you apply E25?

Typical application steps:

1. Clean and prep surface (etch or grind)
2. Mix Part A and Part B
3. Apply with roller, brush, or sprayer
4. Allow ~6 hours before topcoat

Proper prep is critical for adhesion.

What problems does E25 solve?

E25 helps prevent:

• Peeling coatings
• Uneven absorption in concrete
• Premature wear of topcoats
• Poor adhesion on pool decks

Is E25 worth it before applying E28 Cool Life Deck Coating?

Yes—if you want:

• Longer coating life
• Better adhesion
• More professional results

Skipping primer may save money upfront, but E25 helps avoid costly failures later.

How does E25 + E28 Cool Life Deck Coating system work together?

Think of it as a system:

• E25 Primer → bonds to concrete and seals surface
• E28 Topcoat → provides cooling, UV resistance, and slip resistance

Together, they create a durable, cool, and safe pool deck coating system.
