APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE APPLICATION STEPS

Limitations

  • Do not thin.
  • Do not install any product if the temperature is below 55°.
  • Rain may damage uncured products.
  • If inclement weather threatens, cover deck to protect new application.
  • Not for use on negative side for waterproofing or concrete with a moisture content of more than 1.9%.
  • Do not allow any non-applied product to FREEZE.
  • DO NOT PAINT OVER MILDEW. Mildew is a fungus, brown, black, grey or even white in color, and will rapidly grow through any coating applied over it. A solution of 50% household bleach and 50% water will kill the mildew. Rinse thoroughly. See precautions on bleach label for handling before using.

Surface Preparation

Proper roof preparation is essential for successful coating application.

  • The roof surface must be clean and free of all loose and oxidized material, dirt, oil and grease.
  • Thoroughly and carefully use a power blower or a stiff bristle broom and/or power wash the roof surface. (Do not power wash if the roof has any water leaks.)
  • Seam tape all cracks, seams, flashings, skylights, vents, etc. including laps on parapets walls using 8875 Underseal applied at a rate of 50 sq. ft per gallon. For older roofs and/or roofs with cracking, alligatoring, failing systems and minor leaks use polyester roofing fabric to reinforce the roof system (See System Guide.) An older roof in poor condition may need a new roof.
  • Each application should be done in one complete step to form one seamless layer over the total area being covered. Some low sloped roofs may require a complete brush application around all the tab edges. Apply with roller, squeegee, brush or airless spray equipment. If applied by spray, 8875 Underseal must be back rolled. Do not thin. Prior to application of 8875 Underseal, seal all splits, vents, pipes and seams with polyester seam tape and 8875 Underseal.

Poly Seam Tape Application:

  • Seam tape over ALL joints, cracks, seams, around vents, over flashings, caps, pipes and skylights, etc. Cracks over 1/16 inch should be cleaned and caulked (use 9277 caulking) before reinforcing.
  • Brush a coat of 8875 Underseal over the joint or seam.
  • Roll polyester seam tape into the wet Stretch-Guard 8875 Underseal. While still wet, apply another coat of 8875 Underseal over seam tape completely embedding tape in the coating. Allow to dry.
  • Apply an additional full coat of 8875 Underseal over all seam tape applications. Allow to dry. Complete coating the surface at a rate of 1 to 2 gallons per 50 sq. ft to cover and fill in rough surfaces and pinholes.

Metal:

  • Prepare the metal roof by removing all loose material, oil, dirt and flaking rust. Clean and/or etch.
  • Spot prime all rusted surfaces with a rust converter/DTM Primer.
  • Seam tape all seams. (See Poly Seam Tape Application, above.)
  • Apply 1-2 coats (as directed by Life Specialty Coatings representative or specification sheet) of 8875 Underseal at a rate of 100 sq. per gallon.

Concrete:

  • Prepare the concrete surfacd by removing all loose material, oil, dirt and any previously applied product. Clean thoroughly and etch.
  • Seal any joints, cracks, or seams by following the Poly Seam Tape Application instructions above or using a Life Specialty Coatings approved joint sealant.
  • Apply 1-2 coats (as directed by Life Specialty Coatings representative or specification sheet) of 8875 Underseal at a rate of 100 sq. per gallon.

Top Coat:

  • For top coat and project/system specifications, see appropriate specification procedure document.

Maintenance:

  • Clean up spilled and undried product immediately with water.
  • Clean hands and skin with warm water and soap.
  • Most Stains will clean-up with TSP, a brush, and water. We recommend a re-coat every 5 years, depending on exposure to the sun.
  • Repair: Repairs may be done by removing the damaged area and replacing the material as written in this information guide.
