AcrylicPoly DTM² Acrylic Modified Polyurethane WaterProofer & Primer | Metal Concrete Masonry Wood Plastic | Non-Yellowing | Zero VOC

AcrylicPoly DTM² Aliphatic Polyurethane is a single part high performance water-based, non-yellowing breathable paint / coating offering excellent protection against harsh weather conditions, UV exposure, corrosion and physical damage.  AcrylicPoly DTM² can be used both as a primer over concrete, masonry, wood, plastic and direct to metal as well as a flexible waterproofing topcoat for many years of protection.

This product may be sprayed, brushed, or roller applied.  AcrylicPoly DTM² is unique in that it has no VOC’s due to its total water-based formulation. When fully cured, this product has good chemical acid resistance, UV protection, excellent water resistance, abrasion resistance, flexibility, and is environmentally safe.

AcrylicPoly DTM² Aliphatic Polyurethane comes in 1 gallon and 5 gallon pails in 4 gloss levels; Matte, Satin, Semi-Gloss or Glossy finish.  It is available in clear, ready to use white as well as 3 tint bases; pastel, deep and accent for custom coloring.

HOW TO SELECT A TINT BASE FOR CUSTOM COLORING

AcrylicPoly DTM² is available in 3 different tint bases (Pastel, Deep, Accent) which can be tinted to a wide range of colors by your local paint store.  Find a customer friendly paint store who will work with you, select your desired color from one of their 100% acrylic exterior paints, ask them what tint base they would use to tint their paint and then choose the equivalent AcrylicPoly DTM²; pastel, deep or accent depending on what color you are wanting to create.  Then have your local paint store color your AcrylicPoly DTM² when it arrives.  They will mix using the same water based colorant they use to tint other acrylic paints.

AcrylicPoly DTM² will color all but the very deepest, richest colors which may require a neutral tint base (this is not available for AcrylicPoly DTM²). Pastel tint base is used for the lightest and softest colors, the deep tint base is used for brighter, more intense and many darker colors and accent tint base for the darkest and richest colors.

AcrylicPoly DTM² tint bases come in Matte, Satin, Semi-Gloss or Glossy finish.

MAXIMUM TINT THAT CAN BE ADDED TO CREATE CUSTOM COLORS

COVERAGE RATE

Substrate Sq Ft/ Gallon (Approximations)
Textured Surfaces 250-300
All Masonry Surfaces 300
Painted Surfaces 400
Wood Surfaces 300
Metal 400
Tile 350

The coverage depends on the surface. Test the product on a small area of the substrate to estimate coverage. Extremely porous surfaces may require multiple coats.

The use of fluted, scored block, raked joints, sandblasted or etched surfaces will result in greater absorption and lower coverage rates, by up to 40%. Test these areas for the expected coverage rate before general application. Allow for this increased surface area when determining material requirements.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Surface Preparation

Prior to application, all surfaces shall be clean and dry with no oils, dirt, debris, or minerals such as efflorescence, lime and calcium. These stains, along with others, will prevent proper penetration of AcrylicPoly DTM2 to sufficiently seal.

The use of Restore-N-Prep™ Concrete and Masonry Cleaner system is recommended as a pretreatment to clean masonry surfaces. Once clean, allow the surface to fully dry before sealing or applying a topcoat (See the Restore-N-Prep™ TDS for details)

Mixing Instructions

Stir for 2-3 minutes with a jiffy blade at slow speed (500 RPM) to fully disperse the product.

Application Instructions

Smooth Surfaces

AcrylicPoly DTM2 may be applied directly over most surfaces without primer. Apply a light coat at a thickness of 3 to 4 wet mils.

Porous Surfaces

Most porous surfaces should have a sealer or filler to adequately eliminate potential pinholes before applying AcrylicPoly DTM2.

  1. Apply one coat of AcrylicPoly DTM2 (3 – 4 mils wet per coat). Allow 4 hours between coats or when coating is tack free.
  2. Any runs should be brushed or rolled out immediately before drying.
  3. When dry, thickness should be 1.5-2 mils* *For heavy duty applications such as warehouse floors with heavy forklift traffic, DFT thickness should be 3-4 mils.

Dry Time: 45 minutes – 1 hour at 75°F Thinning is recommended to avoid lap marks and allow for proper self-leveling characteristics. Use clean water only.

IMPORTANT: Proper methods to protect from over spraying should be implemented. Atomized particles will adhere to most surfaces and are extremely difficult to remove. Temperature and humidity directly affect dry time. Conditions should be between 40 – 95 °F (5 – 35 °C) and humidity should not exceed 80%.

Re-Application

Apply a second coat within 48-hours for proper adhesion. If the first coat has dried longer than 48-hours, abrade the surface to promote adhesion of the second coat.

Safe Handling

Use product only with adequate ventilation and/or an appropriate cartridge type respirator. Avoid contact with skin and wear protective gloves. Read the Safety Data Sheet before using.

Precautions

For horizontal applications it is the responsibility of the contractor to use appropriate non-slip additive depending on the project conditions. Use material in a well-ventilated area. Protect the work of other trades. Protect shrubbery and other plants with drop cloths. Protect automobiles and all other areas not to be coated from overspray. Remove overspray from any windows, automobiles, metal, etc. as soon as possible should it occur. To prevent permanent staining, clean spills or leaks in a timely manner.

All surfaces to be coated should be clean of any dirt and grime, efflorescence, lime run, form oils and release agents, grease, mud, excess mortar, and mold and mildew, etc. All cracks should be pointed or caulked. All voids, beeholes, masonry surface defects and openings such as conduits, pipes, drains, door frames, vents, air conditioner openings, electrical openings, control joints, or any dissimilar materials should be repaired using urethane or other approved patching.

Do not apply to surfaces if moisture content is greater than 25% as measured with an electronic moisture meter. Do not apply materials in climates where freezing temperatures have existed prior to application. Allow adequate time for surfaces to thaw. Establish that air, surface, and material temperatures are above 40°F (4.4°C) and at least 5°F above the dew point prior to painting.

Do not apply at temperatures below 40°F when temperatures are expected to drop below 40°F within 48 hours of application. Do not apply if rain, snow, or lower temperatures are expected within 48 hours. Do not apply if relative humidity is greater than 90%.

Store materials in a well-protected area at 45°- 90°F. Avoid freezing temperatures, direct sunlight, & moisture. Keep away from heat sources.
