Private Sports Car Garage Shines With Metallic Marbled Epoxy & Vinyl Flake Systems
DESCRIPTION
A sports car enthusiast in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania wanted a custom flooring system to match their dream sports car: A Red Dodge Viper. To accomplish this, they decided to utilize a multisystem project: A Marbled Metallic Epoxy system for the walking space and a matching red tone Full Flake Broadcast for the space where the car would be parked.
The entire flooring area was thoroughly prepared prior to application with a Concrete Diamond Grinder. This type of grinder helps ensure the concrete is thoroughly roughed up in order for the coatings to successfully adhere to it.
Here’s how each system was applied:
Metallic Foot Traffic Area System:
To apply the Metallic System, they followed the 3-step application method:
Step 1: Application of a Decorative Primer Coat consisting of 3 gallons of E707LVP Epoxy in a black color. A black basecoat serves a very important role in determining how the metallic pigments will look (metallic pigments are translucent “see through”) and also prevent the color of the concrete from “telescoping” through the metallic pigments.
Step 2: Application of a thick metallics layer for maximum 3-D affect, using 6 gallons of our 100% Solids Industrial Quality HyperREZ Clear Epoxy. Into this coat, they mixed in (5) 4 oz containers of powdered Red Burst Metallic Pigment and 1 container of Sangria Metallic Pigment.
Step 3: Then they applied 4 gallons of our high solids 5500-EX Polyaspartic as their clear protective topcoat. To provide slip resistance for when the floor is wet, they mixed 50 grit polybeads into the 5500-EX topcoat at the rate of 3-4 heaping tablespoons per gallon of topcoat.
Full Flake Garage Area System:
For the full flake system, they started with a primer of 2 gallons of 7001 Polyurethane Moisture Cured. Next came a basecoat consisting of 3 gallons of our 100% Solids 6009 Epoxy in a Dark Grey Color.
Into the 6009 Epoxy basecoat, they broadcast 60lbs of a custom blend of Vinyl Flakes at the rate of 8 square feet per pound to achieve a full broadcast surrounding a Dodge Viper Logo. Over this, they applied a clear protective topcoat of the 87% Solids 5500-EX Polyaspartic.
