E671CL Epoxy Floor Coating | Clear | 100% Solids | For Metallic Pigment and Full Flake & Quartz Systems

E671CL is a two component 100% solids clear epoxy seal coat that can be used either as a clear coating or filled with paint chips, marble chips and colored sand mixtures to provide an infinite array of color schemes or patterns. This product can be used in conjunction with metallic pigments to create unique artistic flooring designs  that are “one of a kind”.  Requires use of compatible epoxy primer for best results.

Available in a high gloss   Comes in 3/4 gallon, 1.5 gallon kits 3 gallon kits and 15 gallon kits.

PRIMER: To reduce chance of concrete outgassing or enhance color saturation, recommend E5015 Water Based Epoxy.  For quick recoat, one day day project OR application in damp conditions recommend E155CL Epoxy Clear Primer with recoat in 30 min – 1-1/2 hour for 100% solids topcoats and application over damp or moist concrete.

For applying directly to VCT, ceramic tile, vinyl, linoleum or asbestos mastics, cutback and carpet glues with minimal preparation consider our Perfect Primer Sealer.

TOPCOAT: Optional: Our 322HW Semi-Gloss Urethane for metallic systems or when applying a clear topcoat to a metallic or flake floor system use E344QC Quick Cure High Gloss Polyaspartic  for increased UV stability.  Many urethane and polyaspartic coatings are acceptable

MIXING AND APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

PRODUCT STORAGE: Store product in an area so as to bring the material to normal room temperature before using. Continuous storage should be between 60 and 90 degree F. Keep from freezing.

SURFACE PREPARATION: The most suitable surface preparation would be a fine brush blast (shot blast) to remove all laitance and provide a suitable profile. All dirt, foreign contaminants, oil and laitance must be removed to assure a trouble free bond to the substrate. A test should be made to determine that the concrete is dry; this can be done by placing a 4’X4’ plastic sheet on the substrate and taping down the edges. If after 24 hours, the substrate is still dry below the plastic sheet, then the substrate is dry enough to start coating.

PRIMING: To reduce chance of concrete outgassing or enhance color saturation, recommend E5015 Water Based Epoxy.  For quick recoat, one day day project OR application in damp conditions recommend E155CL Epoxy Clear Primer with recoat in 30 min – 1-1/2 hour for 100% solids topcoats and application over damp or moist concrete.

PRODUCT MIXING: This product has a mix ratio of 9.0# part A to 4.15# part B or two parts A to one part B by volume for standard colors (Example: to mix 1 gallon total E671CL to get started, measure 2/3 gallon Part A and mix with 1/3 gallon Part B).  Do not change the proportions  Standard packages are in pre-measured kits and should be mixed as supplied in the kit.

For best mixing results and proper blending of parts A and B, recommend a Jiffy Mixer style drill mixer.  It’s very important when mixing not to run the drill too fast or pump the mixing paddle up and down. Doing either of these this will introduce air into the mix which will be rolled into the coating and create air bubbles at the surface.

Use of an improper drill mixer can result in curing problems if the hardener also called activator (Part B) is not thoroughly blended with the resin (Part A) which can cause some areas on your floor to remain soft and not harden properly.  DO NOT USE A PAINT MIXER.  Most mixing problems described above can be traced back to using a paint mixer..  DO NOT HAND MIX as this approach can result in the same problems as using a paint mixer.

****IMPORTANT NOTE AFTER MIXING:****

Once parts A&B are thoroughly mixed, immediately pour 100% of all mixed product on the floor in a ribbon pattern, S or W shape over the area you want that amount of product to cover. The risk of leaving product in the bucket is that it will become hard and reduce the working time by a minimum of 50% and may harden and start smoking in the bucket before you get back to it.

The epoxy should have a nice even consistency without any color streaks. Pour the E671CL out on the floor immediately after mixing and do not let the E671CL sit in the bucket.  Leaving it in the bucket for as little as a minute or two can shorten the pot life by half or more.

PRODUCT APPLICATION: The mixed material can be applied by brush or roller. However, the material can also be applied by a suitable serrated squeegee and then back rolled as long as the appropriate thickness recommendations are maintained. Maintain temperatures and relative humidity within the recommended ranges during the application and curing process. If concrete conditions or over aggressive mixing causes air entrapment, then an air release roller tool should be used prior to the coating tacking off to remove the air entrapped in the coating. Always maintain a wet edge to avoid color shading differences.

RECOAT OR TOPCOATING: If you opt to recoat or topcoat this product, you must first be sure that the coating has tacked off before recoating. However, all previous coats should be deglossed to insure a trouble free bond prior to application of recoats or topcoats. Colder temperatures will require more cure time for the product before recoating or topcoating can commence. Before recoating or topcoating, check for epoxy blushes (a whitish, greasy film, or deglossing). If a blush is present, it can be removed by any standard detergent cleaner prior to topcoating or recoating. Some standard epoxy coatings and urethanes as well as multiple coats of this product are compatible for use as a topcoat. 7)

Refer to the cure schedule as a guideline to follow, in addition we strongly recommend to test the coating before recoating or topcoating. This is done by pressing your thumb on the coating in multiple places to ensure a fingerprint impression is not visible. If there is no impression visible, then coating the floor can be done. Note, colder or hotter than 75 degrees can affect the curing time schedule

CLEANUP: Use xylol

SURFACE CLEANING: Caution! Some cleaners may affect the color of the floor installed. Test each cleaner in a small area, utilizing your cleaning technique. If no ill effects are noted, you can continue to clean with the product and process tested.

RESTRICTIONS: Restrict the use of the surface to light duty and non-harsh chemicals until the coating is fully cured (see technical data under full cure). It is best to let the surface remain dry for the full cure cycle. Dependent on actual complete system application, surface may be slippery, especially when wet or contaminated; keep surface clean and dry.

LIMITATIONS

  • Colors or clarity for clear may be affected by high humidity, low temperatures, or chemical exposure.
  • For best results use a high quality 3/8” nap roller.
  • Color or gloss may be affected by environmental conditions like humidity, temperatures, chemicals, or exposure to lighting such as sodium vapor lights.
  • Because of the short pot life and dry time, attention should be given to the trim work and tie-in areas to keep a wet edge so as to avoid roller marks, differences in color or shading problems.
  • This product is not UV color stable and may discolor when exposed to UV lighting.  Otherwise the color stability of this product is good.  Therefore a topcoat is option and dependent on the environment.
  • Light or bright colors may require a suitable primer or topcoat to achieve a satisfactory hide.
  • Substrate temperature must be 5°F above dew point.
  • All new concrete must be cured for at least 30 days.
  • Apply a suitable primer before using this product.
  • Physical properties are typical values and not specifications.
