Quartz Granules Upgrades 40 Year Old 1,100 sq’ 3 Car Garage Floor
DESCRIPTION
Customer looking to upgrade well worn 40 year old concrete garage floor decided on a heavy duty double broadcast of decorative color quartz granules Grade 40-S embedded in a commercial grade epoxy and topcoated with a high performance clear polyaspartic. The quartz granules are a great looking, high build surface that smooths out imperfections in the concrete with an excellent anti-slip texture and offer a long lasting, tough durable system.
The concrete floor was thoroughly prepared prior to application of product. The floor was prepped with a diamond grinder and then pressure washed.
They used a 3 step application process. First applying a 16 mil thick (100 sq’/gallon) coat of our DT-454 100% solids commercial grade epoxy and broadcasting QB1020 color quartz granules at the rate of 50 lbs per 100 sq’. Ten hours later they removed the loose granules and applied a 2nd coat of the DT-454 Epoxy Clear Color at 100 sq’/gallon and a 2nd broadcast of the QB1020 quartz granules at 50 lbs per 100sq’. The final step was completed 10 hours later with a clear Polyaspartic topcoat of the E449SF applied at 12 mils (120 sq’/gallon)
A small final color change was made on an 8″ section of concrete outside the garage door. They originally had the blue colored blend quartz extend outside the door but later decided to put a final coat of medium gray colored E449SF Polyaspartic so when the garage door is closed is more closed matches the outdoor driveway concrete color.
Note: You will notice how lighting conditions and use of the E449SF Clear Polyaspartic topcoat change the perceived “color” of the quartz granules and look of the surface.
