Garage Beautified with E707HB Epoxy, Vinyl Flakes and 5500 Polyaspartic
DESCRIPTION
Homeowners in Tennessee were wanting to make their large garage a feature point of their home. To do that, they decided to install an industrial grade epoxy system with a heavy vinyl flake broadcast and clear polyaspartic topcoat.
The concrete flooring surface was thoroughly prepared prior to applying the epoxy basecoat. This is done by taking a Concrete Diamond Grinder to the surface. The grinder abrades the surface until it has the feel of 60-100 grit sandpaper. The reason for the abrasion is to ensure that the epoxy will properly adhere to the concrete and not peel in the future.
Once the concrete was properly prepared, they applied 9 gallons of the Light Grey E707HB Epoxy at a rate of 120 square feet per gallon. While the epoxy was still wet, they broadcast 60lbs of ¼” Vinyl Flakes into the epoxy, creating a heavy flake broadcast.
Next came the application of the clear protective topcoat at 170 sq’/gallon. Since this project was done during the hot Tennessee summer, they opted for 6 gallons of the 5500-HH, a formulation of the 5500 Polyaspartic specifically designed for application in an environment with both High Heat and High Humidity. The purpose of a protective topcoat is not only to protect the basecoat from damage, but to encapsulate the vinyl flakes and keep them from peeling up.
