EZ-Coat Acrylic Coating | Metal, Wood, Concrete | Smooth Finish | Scratch Resistant

EZ-Coat is a high-performance , water-based acrylic coating designed to beautify and protect a wide range of surfaces. EZ-Coat Smooth  it delivers outstanding durability, weather resistance and UV stability, making it ideal for commercial, industrial and residential use while also providing a smooth finish. EZ-Coat offers a breathable, flexible finish that resists cracking, peeling and chalking.

EZ-Coat is designed for high durability uses to improve traction or provide a refreshed color and look. It can be used on a wide variety of applications including wood and metal ramps. It has exceptional durability for UV and moisture exposure environments while being flexible to move with moisture and temperature changes in soft substrates such as wood.  The EZ Coat Smooth version flows exceptionally well for an easy application .

Primer: EZ-Bond Primer for use on metal and previously coated substrates. This will improve the adhesion of the topcoat on harder to coat applications. When applying over previously painted surfaces, ensure the existing coating is sound, clean, dry and it is not chalking.

Topcoat: None required

COVERAGE RATE: The coverage depends on the surface. Test the product on a small area of the substrate to estimate coverage Extremely porous surfaces may require multiple coats.

Mil Thickness

Sq Ft/ Gallon*

Wet = 3.5-4

225-250

*Depending on substrate texture and porosity

PLEASE NOTE: Heavily textured substrates may require a primer or block filler before application. This will ensure that application rates will remain within a reasonable range. However, a textured substrates naturally have more surface area and can reduce spread rates by up to 25%.

APPLICATION TEMPERATURE: 55°F-90°F with relative humidity below 80%

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE APPLICATION STEPS

Precautions: Use material in a well-ventilated area. Protect the work of other trades. Protect shrubbery and other plants with drop cloths. Protect automobiles and all other areas not to be coated from overspray. Remove overspray from any windows, automobiles, metal, etc. as soon as possible should it occur. To prevent permanent staining, clean spills or leaks in a timely manner.

Temperatures should be above 50F and humidity below 80% for proper curing.

Store Materials in a well- protected area at 45-90F. Avoid freezing temperatures, direct sunlight & moisture. Keep away from heating sources.

Surface Preparation: Surface preparation is one of the most critical components before application of any product, but more specifically for floor coatings. All surfaces to be coated should be structurally sound, clean and dry. Failing wood boards should be removed or replaced. This includes wood rot, flaking or wood graining. Ensure all dust, debris, oil , grease, salts and other contaminants are free from the substrate  before application. All cracks and voids should be filled or patched. When applying over an existing coating, ensure the existing coating is deglossed and “dull” to improve adhesion. EZ-Bond will help with adhesion properties when needed. Our EasyClean Bio-Stripper is also ideal when existing coatings need to be completely removed.

Protect  the work of other trades. Protect shrubbery and other plants with drop cloths. Protect automobiles and all other areas not to be coated from overspray. Remove overspray from any windows, automobiles, metal, etc. as soon as possible. To prevent staining, clean spills or leaks in a timely manner.

Smooth Finish:

  • We recommend applying using a 3/4 inch nap roller
  • Two coats are recommended to achieve the desired dry film thickness (DFT) or at least 7-8 mils. Each coat is generally applied at a rate of 250-275 sq ft per gallon
  • Allow for a sufficient drying in between coats. EZ-Coat should be dry to the touch before applying the second coat. At 75F 50% relative humidity this is approximately 1-2 hours
  • Airless sprayers are recommended for the Smooth Version only ,if applying the texture, only use textured sprayers
  • A 10-15% reduction with water is recommended for the first coat to “bite and penetrate porous substrates such as wood. DO NOT dilute when applying on metal or previously coated surfaces

Floor Application:

It is the duty of the applicator to ensure they are recommending the proper version to be used on a floor to avoid slip fall issues. We always recommend for floor applications to use our Textured Version to avoid slip fall hazards and improve traction of the coating. Depending on what the floors are being used for can be a factor and needs to be addressed by the applicator. RainguardPro will not be responsible for any accidents due to slipping or falling on the surface as it is the duty of the applicator to ensure it is the correct environment to be used in.

Concrete:

When applying on concrete, ensure the concrete is porous and able to rapidly absorb water. Concrete that is sealed or has an existing coating may affect long term adhesion. If concrete needs to bel lightly etched before application to open up the porosity due to a penetrating sealer, we would recommend our Restore-N-Prep product. Film-forming coatings should be addressed with a stripper to remove such as our Easy-Clean Bio-Stripper.

Ferrous Metal:

When applying direct to ferrous metal, always use a primer designed for this type of substrate as any water-based product can cause flash rusting.

Non-Ferrous Metal (Aluminum, Galvanized, Galvalume, Stainless Steel):

Remove all oils and coatings from the substrate via solvent wiping, IE SSPC-SP1. Etch or blast to create a 1-2 mil anchor profile or light etching before application. We recommend applying the EZ-Coat System within a few hours after scarification.

Dry Time:

Estimated at 75F 50% RH

To Touch

45 Minutes

To Recoat

1-2 Hours

Light Foot Traffic

4-5 Hours

To Full Cure

5 Days

Clean Up Instructions:

Uncured material can be removed with a water. Cured material can only be removed mechanically. All empty containers must be disposed of according to local, state and federal regulations.

Test Panel: Always perform a test mockup to confirm acceptable conditions before proceeding with the general application. We recommend checking adhesion for proper results. When coating over existing coatings, ensure they are tightly adhered or removed before testing adhesion. EZ-Bond primer will improve adhesion to substrates and can be incorporated to improve the systems overall durability and adhesion performance.

Safe Handling: Use product only with adequate ventilation and/or an appropriate cartridge type respirator. Avoid contact with skin and wear protective gloves. Read the Safety Data Sheet before using.

Storage: Store materials in a well-protected area between 45° and 90°F. Avoid freezing temperatures, direct sunlight, and moisture. Keep away from heat sources.

Limitations:

  • Substrate moisture content should not exceed 15%
  • Always use the EZ-Bond primer on metal or previously coated substrates
  • Not for use in submersible environments
  • Do not apply in  below-grade settings without first priming with our Rubber-Lok membrane
  • Do not apply on substrates with a pH exceeding 8
  • Do not apply if rain is excepted within 24 hours of application
  • Do not apply if temperatures are expected to drop below freezing within 24 hours of application
