POLYASPARTIC DECORATES & PROTECTS DRIVEWAY
DESCRIPTION
Homeowner looking to both decorate and protect their 2 car wide concrete driveway chose the 5500 Polyaspartic aliphatic coating system. The 5500 was chosen as it offers a tough surface, with an attractive high gloss finish and excellent abrasion and chemical resistance that doesn’t yellow in the outdoor sun like epoxy does.
The concrete was thoroughly cleaned and power washed prior to application of the 5500. The CMW 8000 liquid moisture vapor barrier was spray applied to keep potential moisture from coming up from underneath the concrete and possibly causing problems. Polyaspartic and epoxy coatings can be damaged with excessive moisture coming up from underneath a concrete surface.
One coat of the 5500-EX was applied in a leather tan color as basecoat and a medium/heavy density of 1/4″ chips was broadcast while the 5500 was wet. A clear topcoat of 5500-Ex Polyaspartic was then applied, mixing in SSR-20 anti-slip additive for additional safety protection when the driveway is wet.
On the sides of the driveway and the diamond areas in the center, they mixed a dark chocolate color metlallic pigment into the 5500 to create a border and center design. In the center areas, they filled in the control joints first before applying the 5500.
