Automotive Mfg Provides ESD Anti-Static ANSI 20.20 Protection to Warehouse Floor with GroundWorx Ultra Epoxy & Urethane
DESCRIPTION
A leading manufacturer of fuel injectors in the California area had a need for a heavy duty concrete coating system with Anti-Static protection properties in a loading area subject to frequent forklift traffic. To meet this need, they turned to our GroundWorx Ultra System which meets ANSI 20.20-2014 electrical specifications for a conductive floor coating system with <1.0 x 10e6 ohms limiting static charge generation to < 15 volts.
They prepared the floor’s surface for application by first using a Concrete Diamond Grinder to thoroughly rough up the surface to the point that it felt like 60-100 grit sandpaper. The reason for this type of surface preparation is to ensure that the coatings will adhere to the surface and reduce the risk of peeling down the road.
Next, they applied the basecoat consisting of 9 gallons of Groundworx Ultra Conductive Epoxy at 160 Square feet per gallon at 10 mil DFT (dry film thickness). Once the epoxy was on the surface, they set 2 copper grounding strips on top of the epoxy and then connected the other end into an earth ground.
They then applied 4 gallons of the conductive Groundworx Ultra Urethane Topcoat over the epoxy and over the copper grounding strips at 360 square feet per gallon. The topcoat provides an added layer of physical protection to the system (which is vital in a high traffic environment).
After running 10,000 lb+ forklifts across the floor for a period of time, the project owner was very impressed with the performance and durability of this ESD coating system.

Groundworx Ultra ESD Conductive Urethane: 4 Gallons of Light Grey Conductive Urethane (satin sheen) applied one coat at 360 square feet per gallon
