Edge Sealing  EXTERIOR APPLICATIONS

All Avery Dennison Window Films require Edge Sealing including skylights. These recommended sealants are for use on either our films for glass or our films for polycarbonate. They are Dow 795 (anodized grey, silver, white, bronze, black for example) Dow 995 (black only typically used in hurricane zones) and GE 5000. For joint seams use Dow 1199.

Twenty-four (24) hours must pass between film install and edge sealing and all edge sealing
should be completed before 72 hours elapses.  The silicone should seal the edge of the film to the surface of the glass. It may touch the gasket but it must seal the film to the glass. Care needs to be taken that there is enough space between the edge of the film and the window gasket or frame to allow this seal. The outside ambient temperate must be between 41 degrees Fahrenheit and 105 degrees Fahrenheit during the installation phase and until after the silicone edge sealant is applied. The over-night temperature is included in this provision. To be clear, the ambient
temperature may not drop below 41° day or night during the entire installation process.
Should this happen the windows that were subjected to below 41° would not be warranted.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Outdoor films should be cleaned four times a year in order to maintain the appearance and clarity of the film. This is particularly important on sloped or horizontal installations, since the accumulation of dirt and water can cause problems. Installations in areas with heavy atmospheric pollution (such as in dense industrial zones) may require additional cleaning.

For cleaning of all films, use a liquid, non-abrasive cleaner that contains neither solvents nor alcohol, and has a pH value between ~ 5 to 9 (neither strongly acidic nor strongly alkaline),  such as distilled water with a few drops of Johnson’s Baby Shampoo.”

What is anti-graffiti UV film for polycarbonate?

Anti-graffiti UV film is a clear, UV resistant protective layer applied to polycarbonate or acrylic surfaces. It acts as a barrier that absorbs damage from graffiti, scratches, and vandalism—so the underlying surface stays intact.

How does anti-graffiti film protect polycarbonate surfaces?

The film creates a durable, invisible shield that takes the damage instead of the substrate. Spray paint, marker, and grime can typically be wiped off, while deeper damage (like acid etching or razor scratches) only affects the film—not the polycarbonate underneath generally. Recommend 6mil thick film.

Can you remove graffiti from the film?

Yes. Most graffiti—including spray paint and marker—can be cleaned off easily thanks to the film’s wipe-clean coating.  Would recommend considering use of Graffiti Safewipes for quick, easy removal. For severe damage, the film can be peeled off and replaced without harming the surface below.

Does anti-graffiti film protect against acid etching and scratching?

Yes. Heavy-duty versions (like 6 mil film) are designed to resist razor blades, acid attacks, and deep scratches. If damage occurs, you simply replace the film instead of replacing the polycarbonate panel.

Does the film block UV rays?

Yes. Anti-graffiti UV film can block up to 99% of harmful UV radiation, helping prevent fading, yellowing, and degradation of both the polycarbonate and interior surfaces.

Will the film affect visibility or clarity?

No. High-quality anti-graffiti films are optically clear, allowing approximately 88% visible light transmission, so they maintain clarity while remaining virtually invisible.
