Outdoor Concrete Patio Upgrades with Natural Mica Flakes and 5500 Polyaspartic

DESCRIPTION

Homeowner wanted to upgrade and customize their 2,500 sq ft outdoor porch and recreation areas with Mica Flakes. Before beginning, they ensured they had properly prepared the concrete by using a concrete diamond grinder. This ensures the coatings will have the proper adhesion to the concrete and better bonding of the coating system.

For the basecoat, a mixture of Wheat and Leather Tan Colored 5500 Polyaspartic was used. While the coating was still wet, a mixture of Natural Colored Mica Flakes were added to the coating. The owner chose a variety of amber, gold, clear, bronze and even some Random Cut Glitter Flakes to create a customized look that sparkled.  Natural Mica Flakes provide unique metallic luster from naturally occurring Mica Silica Minerals while hiding sub-surface imperfections. Adding some of the copper random cut glitter flakes added a pop of sparkle as well for a finishing touch.

To ensure protection of the flakes, a topcoat of clear 5500 Polyaspartic  was applied as the last step. This provides protection as well as a glossy finish to the project.
