Seafood Distributor Brightens Halls and Bathroom with DT-454 Epoxy and Aspartic 85 Polyaspartic
DESCRIPTION
A Virginia based seafood distributor was moving into a new warehouse facility and wanted to upgrade the looks of the hallway and rest rooms with a new epoxy coating system. To do this, they decided on a commercial grade, heavy duty professional quality system consisting of the 7001 Polyurethane Primer, a basecoat of medium gray DT-454 Epoxy and a clear protective topcoat of Aspartic 85 Polyaspartic.
Before beginning, the original coating had to be removed. This was accomplished by taking a concrete diamond grinder to the existing coating. The grinder not only removed the original flooring system but ensured that the concrete was thoroughly roughed up so it had the feel of 60-100 grit sandpaper. Having the concrete textured like this is a key step in ensuring that the new coatings will properly bond with the concrete and not peel at a later date.
The first step in the coating system was to apply the 7001 Polyurethane Primer at 300 sq’/gallon or 3 mils DFT (dry film thickness). A primer is always an important step to consider when applying a coating system to a concrete floor, as it helps prevent concrete outgassing problems as well as enhancing adhesion. (Amber colored pictures are after applying the 7001 before the DT-454 Epoxy)
Next came application of the DT-454 Epoxy basecoat in Medium Gray. This application was done at 16 mils DFT or 100 sq’/gallon. Once the recoat window opened, they applied the clear protective topcoat of the Aspartic 85 Polyaspartic at 3 mils DFT or 400 sq’/gallon mixed with 3-4 heaping tablespoons anti-slip polybeads to provide a safer surface in wet conditions.
