3-D Metallic System Transforms Finished Basement
DESCRIPTION
A customer in Lancaster, PA was looking to transform his finished basement with a mesmerizing floor system. After consulting with his contractor, SM Remodeling LLC, he decided to move forward with a Metallic Marbled Epoxy System for his 1200’ space.
The floor space was thoroughly prepared for an epoxy system prior to application. That is best accomplished using a Concrete Diamond Grinder on the surface to achieve a 60-100 grit sandpaper feel. This helps ensure that the epoxy system will properly adhere to the surface.
They then utilized a 3-Step Application Process:
Step 1: They applied 9 gallons of our High Solids E707LVP Epoxy Primer in a Medium Gray color. The primer serves 2 purposes. First for all metallic epoxy systems should have a solid color base to set a color “tone” for your metallics system as metallic pigments are translucent “see through” and to prevent the concrete color from being seen below the metallic pigments.
Second purpose of a primer is to reduce the risk of the concrete outgassing after application. Outgassing occurs about 3-5% of the time and is when air is released from the concrete after applying the coating, which can cause the system to take on the look of a lunar landscape and requires significant rework to correct.
Step 2: They applied 18 gallons of our 100% Solids E671CL Epoxy. The E671CL is clear epoxy that is an excellent basecoat option when installing a Marbled Metallics System. Next, they applied 18 Containers of our Metallic Pigment (they used 6 containers each of 3 different pigment colors) to achieve an outstanding 3-D look. Normal application rate is to mix in (1) 4 oz container of metallic pigment per gallon clear epoxy.
Step 3: They installed a clear protective topcoat consisting of 5 gallons of our 90% Solids E450SF Polyaspartic. Adding a protective topcoat helps to protect the integrity of the underlying system and preserve the beauty of the system.
