Homeowner needed to reduce heat coming into house from two round syklight tubes proving light to the kitchen and bathroom. Heat in the summer made the kitchen very hot in the afternoon sun. Homeowner said “between 2 and 6 pm, the kitchen was analogous to living on the sun! or perhaps Mars. It’s 2 o’clock and typically, I couldn’t even sit in the kitchen / living area”.
After applying Cool Coat Clear Thermal Barrier Paint, (they had a professional contractor apply Cool Coat on the two skylights), they said “The heat from the dome isn’t oppressive any more. I actually do not feel any heat”. They indicated it may be as much as 10 degrees cooler in the kitchen. These comments were made during a week outdoor temperatures in North Carolina were about 95F in the afternoon.
Pictures were taken at the same time each day at 2 pm, before application of the Cool Coat, after the 1st coat and next day after the 2nd coat. Lighting in the kitchen was reduced but homeowner felt it was a great trade-off with reduced lighting offset by significantly cooler indoor temperatures.
Cool Coat Clear is NOT water clear but is a translucent coating that you can see through to the base color underneath. However it is not a decorative clear coating.
Cool Coat Thermal Barrier Paint comes in a Clear, White Color Ready-to-Use and 3 Tint Bases for custom coloring by your local “customer friendly” paint store.
