Quartz Granules Provide Safe Anti-Slip & Decorative Rooftop Walkways
DESCRIPTION
Over the past several years, a particular client of ours come up with an amazing new use for our Quartz Granules: Rooftop Walkways!
Pictured are two separate applications that create a safe anti-slip and decorative walking rooftop surface:
1: 101 Riverfront Building – Quartz Granules in a grade 40-S were broadcast across the entire roof of a commercial building. This 1 story rooftop was visible from their connected 6 story office building and an adjacent highway overpass. The building owner wanted the roof to look more appealing to occupants looking down on the exposed 1 story rooftop and to motorists passing by. While a new roof coating was being applied, they applied the quartz granules into the wet coating until the surface was dry (also called application until refusal). This provided an appealing and safe walking surface.
2. PPG Manufacturing Plant – Quartz Granules in a grade 40-S were utilized to create a safe maintenance walkway on a large Indiana Manufacturing Plant Rooftop. The Quartz Granules (in a Safety Yellow color) were broadcast into the wet roof coating right after application along a safe walking path until dry. This walkway was 4,000 linear feet in total and required 65 boxes of quartz granules. This provided a very visible, non-slip walking surface for maintenance associates to safely traverse.
