Storage Tank & Pipe Protected by Bio-Gard E251
DESCRIPTION
CHALLENGE
A large energy company located on the west coast had several applications that required corrosion protection. Conditions and applications included sweating pipes, pipeline maintenance, chemical exposures, and new build storage tank coatings. The wide variety of surface conditions and application techniques required a coating that was easy to apply and could provide long lasting protection in varying environments.
OPPORTUNITY
TFT had been asked to develop a replacement to the Hycote 151 system used by the US Navy with a focus on easier application and performance. Building on the solvent free and wet surface tolerant characteristics TFT was founded on, BIO-GARD E251 was developed (100% better than 151 is 251). The testing and performance shown during development brought BIO-GARD E251 to the attention of this asset owner and allowed quick adoption for their coating needs.
IMPLEMENTATION
Applications of BIO-GARD 251 included manual application by brush and roller on dry and wet infrastructure such as pipes, flanges, and concrete. Additional large scale applications on newly constructed piping and storage tanks used heated plural and conventional spray machines to create smooth, attractive finishes. Application occurred in both Louisiana by a spray facility and onsite in California by field contractors.
OUTCOME
The coating system provided a seamless, protective film that was used in a variety of applications and substrates. Ongoing communications with the asset owner continue to provide new applications as the coatings continue to provide corrosion protection many years later.
