Redmond, OR Airport Uses Cool Coat White to Significantly Reduce Heat on 720′ Connex Trailer Walkway
DESCRIPTION
The Redmond Airport in Redmond, Oregon needed a quick solution to significantly cool down 720 foot long temporary passenger walkway during a $180 million construction upgrade to the airport ‘“On the way out to the aircraft in a few months, you’re gonna be going through Conex shipping container boxes to get out to your vehicle to keep you safe from the construction that’s going on above you. There’s gonna be some of those” said Zaachary Bass, Redmond Airport Manager.’ (Source:Central Oregon Daily )
The team turned to our Cool Coat White Thermal Barrier Paint to get the job done.
The temporary walkway in the airport utilized 18 connected 40 foot Conex shipping containers to make this happen. Unfortunately, these steel containers get extremely hot during the day and when tested reached an internal temperature of 133 degrees when the outside temperature was only 87 degrees. The team originally tried to use a white tarp with an air space between the tarp and the wall that dropped the inside temperature down to 113 degrees. Once the Cool Coat White was applied the temperature inside the container dropped significantly, from 133°F with a factory green paint on the exterior wall to only 97°F which was a 36 degree (27%) decrease in the original internal temperature. Even from using the tarp, it was a 16 degree reduction.
The Cool Coat White resulted in a major safety win for the Redmond Airport during their major renovation. With it’s significant temperature reduction, it allowed passengers to go through these walkways not only protected from any ongoing construction but not overheating during hot days.
