Shell Car Wash Interior Protected with 6007 Wet Conditions Epoxy and 5500 Polyaspartic
DESCRIPTION
A Shell Gas Station with an adjoining car wash was undergoing a remodel and in need of an industrial grade coatings system to protect their 5,000 square foot Car Wash. A combination of our 100% Solids 6007 Wet Conditions Epoxy and High Solids 5500-EX Polyaspartic accomplished just that.
To prepare for the project, they first had to shut the car wash down and allow all the water to drain prior to starting. Using the 6007 Wet Condition Epoxy which can be applied on damp or wet surfaces as long as there is no standing or pooled water, they were able to begin the day after shutting down without waiting for concrete to dry out! The concrete was also grinded to 60-100 grit profile with a Concrete Diamond Grinder to ensure proper adhesion.
35 gallons of Medium Gray 6007 Epoxy was then applied to the car wash floor. 6007 Epoxy is specifically designed to protect floor areas that remain damp or wet, so it was perfect for this particular application.
Next, 24 gallons of slow set 5500-EX Polyaspartic was applied over the 6007 Epoxy as soon as the 6007 had set enough to allow additional coating. Applying the top coat at this staged kept the contractor from having to sand the 6007 to allow the top coat to adhere.
To provide maximum safety and slip resistance for maintenance staff, 20lbs of an aggressive profile, heavy duty 16 Grit Aluminum Oxide was mixed into the 5500-EX Polyaspartic during the mixing process. Aluminum Oxide offers the most aggressive among many Anti-Slip Options.
The final step was to apply a rust resistant epoxy in Safety Red to the vertical steel posts and Safety Yellow to the horizontal steel rails inside the car wash area. They used the DTM (direct to metal) E15M High Solids Epoxy for long term protection.

Aluminum Oxide : 20lbs of 16 Grit Aluminum Oxide mixed into the 5500 Polyaspartic Top Coat for Maximum Slip Resistance.
