Homeowner Transforms Sidewalk with Quartz Granule System
DESCRIPTION
A homeowner in Illinois wanted to spruce up their concrete front walkway with a colorful look that was tough and durable and decided to do so with our Quartz Granules embedded in a high performance epoxy and polyaspartic coating system.
The surface was thoroughly prepared prior to the application. This involves using a concrete diamond grinder on the surface to get a feel of 60-100 grit sandpaper.
Next came the application of the Moisture Vapor Barrier, the CMW 8000. A Vapor Barrier is essential when doing an outdoor concrete coatings project as it helps prevent moisture from coming up through the concrete and ruining the coating. This is especially important as outdoor concrete rarely has moisture vapor barrier protection.
Then, he applied 3 gallons of 100% Solids DT-454 Epoxy with a quart of E-Poly Pigment mixed into it. The DT-454 has excellent resistance to moisture and to damaging UV rays and is great for use in outdoor projects. It is also able to withstand up to 9 psi in moisture vapor pressure. The reason for using the pigment was to keep the color of the concrete from telescoping through the Quartz Granules.
He then broadcasted 200 lbs of the Quartz Granule Blend Sandstone to refusal (until dry) into the wet epoxy (DT-454). Over that, the next day he applied 4 gallons of the 87% Solids 5500-EX Polyaspartic in a 2 coat application to provide a clear, protective non-yellowing topcoat.
