K9 Training Facility Protects Floors with E1016 Epoxy and E322 Urethane
DESCRIPTION
A dog boarding/training facility was looking spruce up their new facility with a custom floor. Given the high amount of anticipated foot traffic, slip resistance was considered just as important as any decorative aspect. Therefore, it was decided to use the E1016 Anti-slip Epoxy as the basecoat. On top of the basecoat, a medium/heavy broadcast of decorative flakes would be added. Then, a protective topcoat of the E322 Urethane would be applied to protect the integrity of the basecoat and encapsulate the decorative flakes.
Prior to application, the concrete was thoroughly prepared to ensure that the coatings properly adhered to the concrete. That is accomplished with a Concrete Diamond Grinder. This device abrades the concrete surface to the point that it has the feel of 60-100 grit sandpaper. That is the optimal texture for ensuring proper adhesion.
The E1016 was then applied at a rate of approximately 140’ per gallon. While the epoxy was still wet, the decorative vinyl flakes were broadcast into the floor at approximately 85’ per pound.
For the topcoat, the E322HW Clear Urethane was applied on top of the basecoat and flakes at a rate of 320’ per gallon. Being a thin film topcoat, it provides protection to the basecoat while not fully diminishing the anti slip properties of the E1016.
