E100V Vertical Wall Epoxy Rejuvinates 60,000 Gallon 50 Year Old Concrete Pool
DESCRIPTION
Homeowner looking to doing a large DIY project to repair and rejuvinate their 50 year old concrete pool were looking for a high quality epoxy coating system. They chose the E100V Epoxy which as a vertical wall epoxy that can be applied as thick as 10 mils (160 sq’/gallon) in a single application on vertical surfaces without sagging. It also has a long 45 to 90 minute working time for greater flexibility. The 5500-EX Polyaspartic High Gloss was selected as a clear topcoat as it can be applied in underwater applications as well as for its ability to not yellow in sunlight like epoxies do.
The concrete was thoroughly cleaned, power washed and a concrete hand grinder with a diamond blade was used to rough up the concrete prior to start of the project. Green tile above water line was roughed up using a sander.
The E100V Epoxy was roller applied in two coats on the steps and one coat over the green tile (after roughing it up with grinder) above the waterline. The white color was used for the entire project except the steps and areas above the water line. The light blue was used as an accent color on the steps and the 8″ strip of green tile around the perimeter of the pool just above the water line. Before deciding to apply the E100V to the 8″ tile, customer tested adhesion on the existing green tile and found it to be excellent. One coat of the 5500-EX Clear Polyaspartic was applied over areas using the light blue color E100V Epoxy for additional protection against yellowing in the sun.

PRODUCTS USED:
E100V Vertical Wall Epoxy 100% Solids: Used 22 gallons of White Color applied at 130 sq’/gallon (12 mils thick) in two coats and Light Blue Color applied at 160 sq’/gallon in one coat.
5500 Polyaspartic High Gloss Coating : Applied clear topcoat of 5500-EX Polyaspartic non-yellowing aliphatic coating on areas with the Light Blue color for additional protection against the sun
