Surface Preparation:
Cleaning and General Preparation: Loose or peeling coatings must be removed by sand or water blasting. All loose or defective concrete or masonry and any surface contaminates such as dirt, oils, mildew, chalk and efflorescence which may adversely affect product adhesion and performance
must be removed.

Mildew: Mildew is a fungus, brown, black, grey or white in color which will rapidly grow through any coating applied over it. A solution of 50% household bleach and 50% water will kill the mildew. Rinse thoroughly. Read precautions on beach label before using.

Efflorescence: Efflorescence must be removed by sandblasting or thorough wire brushing and scraping followed by washing with a 10% solution of muriatic acid. Neutralize and rinse thoroughly.

Metal: Metal must be free of rust. Clean and etch bare metal.

Glossy Surfaces: Remove gloss by sanding or with a chemical deglosser.

Application

Do not apply when temperatures are below 50°F, when temperatures are expected to drop below 40°F within 24 hours, or when fog or rain is anticipated.

Apply by brush, roller, or spray.

Coverage

• Stucco: Apply by roller or spray at approximately 150–200 square feet per gallon.
• Exterior plywood, including T1-11: Approximately 200 square feet per gallon.

Actual coverage may vary depending on surface porosity, condition, texture, and application method.

Exterior Plywood and T1-11 Application

• Seal all panel edges.
• Brush-apply primer to T1-11 in the direction of the wood grain.
• If spraying, apply the primer liberally and back-roll to work the product into the surface.

Drying and Recoat Time

Dries to the touch in approximately 30 minutes and can be sanded after 2 hours. Under normal temperatures, the primer may be recoated after approximately 2 hours.

Stain-blocking applications may require additional curing time before recoating.

Stain Blocking

6475 Primer helps reduce tannin bleed on most wood surfaces and may reduce nail-head rust and certain light water stains. Do not thin the product when stain-blocking performance is required. Some stains may require two coats of primer.

Water-based products contain emulsifiers and coalescents that continue to evaporate after the surface feels dry. Allow additional curing time when using the primer for stain-blocking applications.

Water Stains

6475 Primer contains stain-blocking pigments and can block most water stains with one or two coats. Before priming, remove as much of the stain as possible using paint thinner or a TSP solution, as appropriate for the surface. Allow the surface to dry before applying the primer.

Cleanup

Clean tools and hands thoroughly with warm, soapy water, then rinse with clean water.

Storage

Transport and store the product in its original, unopened, and undamaged container. Protect from freezing.

If the product becomes partially frozen, move it to a heated area and allow it to warm gradually. Do not apply heat directly to the container.

Maintenance

Life’s Acrylic Primer #6475 is not intended for use as an exposed finish coat. Always apply a compatible topcoat and refer to the topcoat’s technical bulletin for maintenance instructions.
