Product Use Instructions
Surface Preparation
Concrete: Surfaces should be allowed to cure for am inimum of 20 days before coating. Excessive weak surface laitance must be removed, preferably by abrasive sweeping before coating. Aged, uncoated concrete surfaces are best prepared by abrasive sweeping. Contamination by oil or grease should be removed with an industrial degreaser before abrasive blasting or acid etching.
Steel: Clean steel of any contaminants with a detergent wash and fresh water rinse. Prepare surface by sanding, power tool cleaning, or abrasive blasting to SSPC-SP10 “Near White Blast” with a 2-4 mil anchor profile. Removal of contaminants and a rough surface profile will provide the best adhesion for the material. Failure to do so may result in poor adhesion and detachment.
Wood: Clean surface to remove any dirt, debris, or materials that will not allow the ABC Primer 914 to reach the surface. Spread with a brush or roller on flat surfaces or simply pour into cavities.
Mixing Procedures
ABC Primer 914 is quick curing and must be used immediately after mixing or will cook before application. Make sure the surface is prepared, work tools are ready to use, and other safety considerations have been addressed before mixing.
This material is a two-component product, premeasured to produce the desired kit size once part A and B are mixed. If supplied in dual cartridges, attach the static mixer to the end, reapply the locking nut, and dispense material. Unused material may be saved by allowing the mixed material in the static mixer to harden. Remove static mixer at next use and apply a fresh one to continue using remaining material.
If supplied in containers, mix using a stir stick or spatula as pot life is too short to use with powered mixers. Pour the curing agent into the base and mix for 30 seconds to 1 minute, taking care to reach all corners and walls to eliminate unmixed material. Unmixed material will never harden.
NOTE: Pot life and reaction time is heavily dependent on temperature. As a general guide, every 18°F above77°F will cut the pot life and cure time in half.
NOTE: This material releases a significant amount of heat during curing. When used as a void filler, only use a small amount of material per pour to reduce the maximum exotherm temperature
NOTE:ABC PRIMER 914may be immersed in fresh or salt water immediately. It will cure to a hard film within 1 hour and is suitable for traffic after this time
Safety: This is a hazardous material if misused. Read and understand the Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s) before use

What is the recommended mixing ratio?
ABC Primer 914 is a two-component epoxy with a 1:1 mix ratio by volume. Thoroughly mix Part A and Part B until the material is uniform before application.
Can ABC Primer 614 be used with FRP composite repair systems?
Yes. ABC Primer 914 is specifically formulated to improve the bond between properly prepared substrates and fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) composite repair systems, helping create a durable resin-to-substrate bond.
Can ABC Primer 914 be used under repair grouts and putties?
Yes. ABC Primer 914 improves adhesion beneath many compatible epoxy grouts, high-build repair putties, and other non-self-priming repair materials, making it an excellent choice for industrial maintenance and repair applications.
What temperature should ABC Primer 914 be applied at?
ABC Primer 914 should be applied when surface and ambient temperatures are between 45°F and 110°F. Cure speed will vary with temperature, with warmer conditions reducing working time.
Why does ABC Primer 914 cure so quickly?
Its rapid-curing epoxy chemistry allows the primer to develop a tacky bonding surface in approximately 30 minutes, helping reduce downtime and allowing secondary coatings or composite systems to be installed sooner.
How much coverage does ABC Primer 914 provide?
One gallon of ABC Primer 914 covers approximately 100 square feet at a 16-mil film thickness. Actual coverage will vary depending on surface texture and application method.
